Valerie & Chad are back this week with yet another riveting conversation with a longtime friend of the B&L family, as we welcome Medasin to ATN (3:28). He’s a dynamic producer in the electronic space that has evolved over the years from the SoundCloud beats world, to nationwide EDM festivals and tours, to, most recently, the release of his album “Always In A Hurry” which feels like his maturation as an artist on full display.
With no shortage of knowledge or wit, Medasin tells us why being bald is the best, why he departed from the typical EDM producer career route, the paralysis of choice in the industry, the impact that Splice has had on the creation of music, why the 70’s was the best era for music and why we are still trying to replicate it, and the full story of his IG being hijacked by the infamous Ahmet Taslar (1:08:09).

Festival season is in full-effect and we've got the tan (or sunscreen protection) to prove it! Valerie tells us about her trip to Tomorrowland in Europe and Chad recaps his weekend at HARD Summer, where this week's guest was performing.
No stranger to playing B&L shows, we welcome Wuki to the podcast for the first time. (5:44) He shares some thoughts on the Super Mario Movie, his approach to keeping the fun in his creation process, success in creating short-form content, getting his first break with his band Innerpartysystem, hanging with Sonny before he became Skrillex, and how he was able to officially release "Beats I Can't Release."

This week’s ATN features the singer / songwriter / all-around musical force, Bright Lights, a voice you’ve heard on Porter Robinson’s “Language” and a number of other dance floor jewels, in addition to her songwriting for artists including Britney Spears, Usher, and Justin Bieber.
We reminisce on the Myspace music days and how she cold DM’d her way into a major label, starting her own label 333 Recordings, why covers are important in dance music, the religious experience of her first warehouse party, how singers and writers are taken for granted in the music industry, the emotional resonance of Language, why dance music lacked anthems in recent years, and Hardwell’s stellar contributions to her new album.

005. VALERIE & CHAD - is dance music entering a renaissance?
Thursday Jul 27, 2023
Thursday Jul 27, 2023
We’re doing something a lil different this week with an episode featuring your hosts of All This Noise, Valerie Lee & Chad Kenney! Val & Chad give themselves a proper introduction (with some USC slander from Chad’s side) and talk about their respective careers in dance music.
After formalities, Val & Chad pose the question: is dance music entering a renaissance? They discuss the harsh readjustment to live events coming out of the pandemic, Fred Again’s emotional impact on the world, the symbolic importance of the Skrillex b2b at Coachella, kids ordering a margarita at a club, a booming economy in dance music, their picks for the lamest moments in EDM history, and plenty of positive inspiration for you jaded industry types.

This week’s ATN features the wonderful Kah-Lo, Nigerian-born singer, songwriter, DJ, and tastemaker who is well accomplished in the dance music world. (2:59) You’ve probably heard her legendary performance on Riton’s record “Rinse and Repeat” or a number of other infectious songs featuring her distinct voice.
We talk about the transition from making club anthems to gym anthems, how she lets her wig choice determine her fit, how grief influenced the writing process on her new album, healing with the aid of her therapist (shoutout Sharon), getting a Grammy nomination for her first released single, African musicians getting increased visibility stateside, and the scars from breaking through the glass ceiling.

We’re back this week on ATN with a fun conversation with our homie Glenjamn: a creator, photographer, visual artist, and a documentarian of the LA electronic music scene and beyond (2:10)
We discuss Glen’s roots as an LA-born Korean, mid-2000’s looks, nightcrawling LA clubs while working a desk job at Disney, becoming lifelong friends with Kavinsky after smoking him out, going to dinner with Thomas from Daft Punk, providing a front-and-center look into the LA scene through YouTube, what it’s like to be in Justice’s entourage, speculation on if Daft Punk will ever return, and a ton more.

On this very special episode of ATN, Val and Chad welcome CHROMEBODIES, the new project from Manila Killa x Hotel Garuda, for their first-ever interview since reuniting as a duo (2:12)
We discuss a wonderful range of topics such as their middle school basketball team origins, forming a DJ duo on opposite coasts, going down the techno rabbit hole during the pandemic, how being shameless can be fun, the pros and cons of an anonymous dance project, why music gets faster during recessions, and so much more.

On the world premiere of All This Noise, Val & Chad welcome you to the pod and give a little background on what to expect from this new podcast in a very non-saturated podcast market lol (0:35)
Then they welcome Alison Wonderland as their first guest (8:03) who discusses playing the main stage at EDC while 9 months pregnant, launching her record label, using her burps as samples, her mission to bring Whyte Fang to Coachella, an obsession with the game Bejeweled, talking with Grimes about how having a baby is punk rock, and much, much more.
